24”x18”, Acrylic on canvas, 2019
Portrait of a well-known movie star from the 70s and 80s playing the role of a villainous dacoit called Gabbar Singh in an ever popular movie called Sholay. This portrait has been done in a style reminiscent of the hand-painted poster art popular before the digital revolution. Heaving bosoms, rippling muscles and a frenzy of emotions in almost ludicrous colors marked this lost tradition that unified millions of movie-goers across the whole country.
